CHC isn’t perfect, and if you stick around long enough---you will get hurt---like anyplace else. There are ebbs and flows, like in the life of any family. What I have found is that if you stay through the times of hurt, the times of joy are that much sweeter, because you’ve worked through things together. And like family, I have found that individuals are never given up on.
I came to City Harvest Church in 2005, completely utterly broken. I no longer believed in the church as an institution and made the decision to attend 2 churches because I didn’t want to get too heavily invested. I made it my express purpose to not get to know anyone in leadership, because I never wanted to see the inner workings of a church again.
Unlike many who make City Harvest home, I didn’t walk in and feel immediately like it was where I was called to be. There was no “deep calling to deep” in my heart, no instant recognition that I was home, and to be honest it took me a long settling in period before I started to like it. I couldn’t sit through an entire sermon and the presence of God left me weeping thru every worship service.
City Harvest is a church that values the presence of God, which pursues Him and His will eagerly, which seeks to minister regularly to the poor, and to the community it belongs to. It’s a church that plants other churches worldwide—it’s a church that sees the individual. It’s a true “Come as you are” church.
Kindness and love were exhibited in a way that seemed very genuine.
I had known Senior Pastors Bob and Sue from another church, and Pastor Bob went out of his way to reach out to me, letting me know I was seen, that I was cared for, and that he was there if I needed anything.
Slowly, I began to relax and started serving in the nursery. God used this experience to completely blow me away. I worked every week, and as couples in the church rotated in to work with me, I was completely taken in by how unselfish everyone was, and how they would spend the whole morning asking me about my story. Everyone I worked with would ask questions and actually REALLY listen to the answers. I had never been in a place where people were so genuinely interested in me as a person.
In my now 11 years at City Harvest, I can tell you that it is a place where people are genuine, and it is ok to be your true, authentic self. Everyone is down to earth, and leaders are honest about their own weaknesses, making it safe for the sheep to be honest too.
It’s also a place where you will sometimes be uncomfortable. Pastor Bob usually occupies the pulpit on Sundays and he teaches the Word in a systematic, thorough way which balances theology and practical Christianity. The word is often convicting and compels action or a response on the part of a believer. Other staff pastors also preach, and they too are interesting to listen to, and convicting. The leaders are also very personable and will speak into the lives of the sheep, encouraging, building up, and also helping believers see their blind spots. It’s not always a fun process, but there is a certain security that comes when you know your leaders care enough to confront things in you.
There is a culture of warmth, family, and transparency.
This church is bomb. A true sense of electricity pouring out the seams of its building.A real spiritual high. Very relaxed and never uptight or conservative and yet still maintains a true respect for what were all there for... to rejoice together in honor of our dear lord: God!!!
Been coming here for 10 years. Since then they've added a Latino service in Spanish. Pastor Pascual is amazing! I was a backslidden Christian for 11 years and I came here having only been a reborn Christian for a year and a half, and didn't know a lot about the Bible or theology. I've never experienced so much love in place. Now I am deeper in my walk as a believer than I have ever been. I've never attended a church like this. Amazing worship that brings God's presence, melts hearts, and preaching from the leadership that will teach you, convict you, and make you laugh all at the same time. There is no hypocrisy here, no cliques, and everyone is welcome. This church has a home atmosphere and I think everyone will find something here that will impact your life. I've never met a pastoral staff that are so unified in their concern and devotion to the church and it's members and community. Pastor Bob and the leadership team are true servants and shepherds of the Lord and His people and lead with humility, transparency, accountability. They work hard help you grow in your walk with God and treat you like family. They share one vision for evangelism, missions, community and church body. Pastor Bob's sermons never disappoint me with sound and practical Bible teaching and the truth of God's word. He has the great ability to mix humor, theology, and transparency, and never sugarcoats anything, so sometimes I've walked away convicted, but in a good way. City Harvest has mazing community focus with lots of small home groups for people of all ages and stages of life, and classes for all kinds that help you grow as a Christian and in other areas. This is one of the warmest, most welcoming church communities I have ever experienced. It really is a family. I came here a real mess and I wouldn't be where I am without the Lord working through City Harvest. Many others have too. This really is a come-as-you-are church. Come here messy, broken, and lost and be welcomed with loving open arms. Whether you are thinking about a relationship with Jesus, wanting to know more about being a Christian, or have be walking with the Lord for years this is a fantastic church. You will find God, worship that touches your heart l, safety, and lots of love here.
An Apostolic Revival Community embracing spiritual gifts, loving the river of God's presence and submitting to the inerrant authority of Scripture. A training center for the generations to come and be sharpened, hear the word of the Lord and return to battle equipped and READY!!! Been involved for 6 months.
